What Happened

The FDA said on March 11, 2026 that it added one more product to its safety alert covering dietary supplements sold as tejocote root or Brazil seed. FDA testing found these products contained toxic yellow oleander instead of the labeled ingredients.

Why It Matters

Yellow oleander is a poisonous plant. The FDA said the affected products can cause neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular adverse effects that may be severe or even fatal. For supplement shoppers, this is another reminder that ingredient identity matters as much as label marketing.

What Buyers Should Do

Avoid the products listed in the FDA alert and do not assume that a botanical product is safe just because it is sold as herbal or natural. Buyers should check brand names against the FDA list, stop using any matching item, and report side effects through MedWatch or to a healthcare professional.
